Fortnite Augments can make things a lot easier for you in the battle royale, by granting you special abilities and boosts to give you a competitive advantage. On top of that, certain augments will instantly provide high-level items, such as a Mythic Tactical Pistol or a Heisted Exotic Weapon, which can instantly turn a fight into your favor. There is an element of luck involved to decide which augments you have the chance to activate as they are offered in random pairs, but you can at least reroll to get a fresh selection and the first time in each match is free.

The overall pool of augments has been steadily growing to reach 30 different options at the time of writing, and there's bound to be fresh additions over the coming months. To find out more, here's a breakdown for all of the augments in Fortnite and an explanation of how to activate them.

Some of these Fortnite Augments are incredibly useful, for example letting you travel around in vehicles without consuming fuel or increasing the rate at which you'll find recovery items. There are even ones you'll unlock as you continue your Fortnite progress that will show you the locations of nearby chests when you enter a new area, or spawn extra loot when you emerge from hiding places, giving you a tactical advantage over your opponents. If you want to know more about how this system works, then we've got the lowdown on all of the available Fortnite Augments and how to activate them.

New augments in Fortnite

As of the v24.30 update released on May 2, the following four new augments in Fortnite have been added:

  • Desperate Reload: Pistols reload faster when reloaded with an empty clip.
  • SMG Sign Off: The last 3 bullets of your SMG magazines deals bonus damage.
  • Steady Hands: Marksman Rifles have reduced recoil.
  • Tracker's Armory: Grants a Flare Gun and Shadow Tracker Pistol.

On top of those, four previous augments have also been returned:

  • Bush Warrior
  • First Assault
  • Forecast
  • Mythic Munition

As always, you'll need to keep playing the game and activating augments for a chance to unlock these new and returning buffs.

How to activate augments in Fortnite

Your first choice of Fortnite Augments will appear around two and a half minutes into a match, then a new pair will be added every further two and a half minutes until all four slots are available. This is represented by a 'Ready!' notification at the side of the screen, at which point you can press right on the d-pad to open the menu and activate augments in Fortnite. There's no longer a short countdown before this appears, but you can open your inventory then switch to the Augments tab to see how long is left until your next choice is available.

For each of the four available slots you'll be presented with two Fortnite Augments to choose between, from the selection you've unlocked so far. You can also reroll by following the prompt at the bottom to get two new choices – this is free the first time in a match, but subsequent rerolls will cost you 100 bars each. To activate augments in Fortnite, simply highlight the one you want to use then press the right trigger to select it and start reaping the benefits.
